Creating Opportunity
Coach Clay founded Heritage Christian with a simple belief: every young person is uniquely created by God, gifted with abilities worth discovering, developing, and using well.
With the support of Coach Clay, Heritage Christian continues the ministry he began by creating places where young people can grow and thrive in their gifts — places where they are encouraged to pursue excellence, supported through both success and failure, and challenged to become the best version of who God created them to be.
Heritage Christian is a place for young people who are passionate about what they do and willing to work at becoming better. We believe gifts should be encouraged, but also developed through discipline, effort, accountability, and perseverance. There is room here to learn, grow, compete, fail, recover, and pursue excellence.
Come Find Your Place
Whether your passion belongs on a field, at a range, around a table, in a workshop, or somewhere we have not built yet, there may be a place for it here.

It Began With Baseball
Baseball was Coach Clay’s passion — a love he first shared with his father, Coach Wingard, and later with his own sons. The tradition of working hard and competing at a high level was part of Coach Clay’s life long before HC existed.
In his senior season, the final year of his high school baseball career, Coach Clay won the Dizzy Dean World Series with his father, Coach Wingard, serving as head coach. That pursuit of excellence stayed with him, and for more than two decades he carried it forward through his own boys and generations of young players. Heritage Christian became the fullest expression of that calling — a place where the lessons he had spent years teaching through baseball could become part of something larger.
It became HC Baseball, the heart of Heritage Christian Athletics and the place where the HC story began.
What grew around the game was always bigger than the game itself: competition, relationships, responsibility, resilience, laughter, hard work, and a place where young people could succeed, fail, learn, recover, and try again.
HC Baseball remains the flagship of Heritage Christian Athletics and the foundation from which everything else has grown.
HC Rifle
Coach Clay’s interests were never limited to one field. He enjoyed shooting and time at the range with family and friends, making Rifle another natural part of the Heritage Christian story.
Today, HC Rifle gives athletes a place to develop focus, discipline, confidence, and precision through smallbore prone, smallbore 3-position, and precision air rifle competition.

Gifts Take Many Forms
Athletics were only one part of who Coach Clay was. He was academically gifted, technically minded, endlessly curious, and almost always building, fixing, solving, or learning something.
Coach Clay built a career in technology, loved mathematics and science, played chess, worked with his hands, tackled practical problems, and believed abilities were meant to be developed and used.
That same belief shapes where Heritage Christian is headed. A young person’s gift may be baseball. It may be mathematics, mechanics, painting, coding, cooking, woodworking, music, chess, or something they have not discovered yet.

Coach Clay’s own interests crossed athletics, academics, technology, hands-on skills, strategy, and more. HC wants young people to have that same freedom to explore what captures their interest and discover where their gifts may lead.
Not every passion belongs on a traditional field or court. HC also wants to create room for the interests, hobbies, strategy, creativity, competition, and curiosity that bring students together.
Chess, tabletop games, coding, STEM, recreational sports, service clubs, academic organizations, hobbies, and other student interests all have the potential to become places where young people can grow.

More Than a Place to Play
HC has always been about more than practices, games, scores, and seasons. We have intentionally worked to build a place where people are treated like family — not simply people who happen to share a team.
Brothers and sisters grow up on the sidelines. Families travel, celebrate, serve, laugh, work, eat, cheer, and make memories together. Athletes may eventually leave a season behind, but the relationships often remain.
Retreats, cookouts, Easter egg hunts, park days, team meals, Tippy Tuesdays, Banana Ball, cookies at games, and countless ordinary moments together have all helped make HC what it is.
Those experiences are not extras. They are part of what makes HC feel like home and what makes our Angels a family.

Coach Clay
Coach Clay founded Heritage Christian because he believed young people deserved a place where they could be challenged, encouraged, and given the opportunity to grow into the gifts God placed within them. He loved competition, expected effort, valued character, and believed that anything worth doing was worth doing to the best of your ability.
He was loved not simply because he coached, but because he invested in people. Coach Clay taught, encouraged, fixed, built, worked, listened, laughed, stayed late, and stepped in wherever he was needed. He poured himself into his players and into this program, often doing the work no one else saw because the work mattered and the people mattered.
Heritage Christian was built by Coach Clay and his family in the most literal sense. Fields were worked, uniforms were made, equipment was repaired, problems were solved, and countless hours were given so that more of the program’s resources could remain focused on its athletes. Service was never something Coach Clay merely talked about. It was the way he lived.
Baseball remained at the center of that life until the very end. Coach Clay spent his last full day on earth where he had spent so many others — at the ballfield, coaching.
That is why Coach Clay is more than a name attached to Heritage Christian. It represents the man, the ministry, the standard, and the way of serving that continue to shape what HC is becoming.
The vision now reaches beyond athletics toward a community where young people can pursue academics, trades, practical life skills, arts, STEM, clubs, hobbies, service, recreation, and fellowship — each opportunity rooted in the same belief that gifts should be discovered, developed, and used well.
One day that may look like a gym and athletic fields, classrooms, workshops, kitchens, studios, gathering spaces, and places to build, create, learn, practice, compete, and belong.
We are building the framework now so that when the right people, resources, ideas, and opportunities come together, there is already a place for them — and a legacy worthy of the name it carries.

Heritage Christian School was created to support families who choose to homeschool while still giving their children opportunities to enjoy many of the positive experiences traditionally connected with school community.
Families keep the freedom and flexibility of homeschooling while having opportunities for connection, educational support, athletics, clubs, activities, play days, and shared experiences with other students and families.
